Mode of Action:
- A white solid, it is structurally related to isothiazole, and is part of a class of molecules called isothiazolinones. Isothiazolones utilizes a two- step mechanism involving rapid inhibition (minutes) of growth and metabolism, followed by irreversible cell damage resulting in loss of viability (hours). Cells are inhibited by disruption of the metabolic pathways involving dehydrogenase enzymes.
- BIT is widely used as a preservative and antimicrobial. Benzisothiazolinone has a microbicide and a fungicide mode of action. It control bacterial and fungal diseases in various agricultural crops by destroying the nuclear structure and interfering with the metabolism of microbial cells
